Answer Inclusion Rate
The percentage of responses that cite or mention your domain when the same query is repeated across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The primary KPI of an AEO analysis tool.
What is Answer Inclusion Rate?
Answer Inclusion Rate is the percentage of responses that include your domain — as a cited source or as a text mention — when the same query is run multiple times against answer engines like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. It is the primary KPI of an AEO analysis tool — the most direct absolute measure of "do we appear inside AI answers at all?"
While Citation Share tracks the relative slice versus competitors, Answer Inclusion Rate tracks your standalone exposure frequency. Run both side by side to separate raw exposure from competitive position.
Measurement procedure
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1. Define query bundle | Pick 10–20 core category queries (exclude branded queries) |
| 2. Repeat calls | Run each query 5–10 times to absorb response variance |
| 3. Inclusion check | Verify whether the response body contains your URL or brand text |
| 4. Compute rate | (responses containing our domain ÷ total responses) × 100 |
| 5. Per-platform | Aggregate separately for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity |
A single call is too noisy — answers vary each run. Five-to-ten repeats is the working standard, and AEO analysis tools automate the loop.
How to read it
Trend matters more than the absolute number. Re-run the same bundle every 2–4 weeks and watch whether the score is climbing. A one-shot reading is not enough for an absolute verdict. Below 30%, prioritize page-structure work (Q&A, FAQPage, Answer-First). Above 60%, shift focus to Citation Share improvements.
