RanketAI Score
RanketAI's composite scoring framework that quantifies how likely a website is to be cited by AI answer engines — measuring crawlability, structured data, AEO readiness, citation signals, and page speed on an A–F scale
What is the RanketAI Score?
The RanketAI Score is RanketAI's proprietary composite score that quantifies how likely a specific website or page is to be cited, quoted, or mentioned by AI answer engines — including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity — when they respond to user questions. Previously also referred to as the AI Visibility Score.
Unlike traditional SEO scores that measure search engine ranking signals, the RanketAI Score is designed specifically for the generative AI era. It combines technical audit signals with live LLM response testing to provide the most complete picture of AI visibility available.
The Five Domains RanketAI Measures
1. Crawlability
Whether AI crawlers can access and index the page.
Key checks:
- robots.txt allowance for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended
- Presence and quality of llms.txt at the site root
- HTTPS, redirect chains, and crawl budget
2. Structured Data Completeness
The breadth and quality of JSON-LD schema implementation. AI systems use structured data to identify a page's subject, authorship, publication date, and content with high precision.
Schemas evaluated: Organization, Article, BlogPosting, FAQPage, HowTo, BreadcrumbList, WebSite
3. AEO Readiness (Answer Readiness)
Whether content is structured so AI can extract direct answers from it.
Signals measured:
- Direct-answer opening paragraph (does the first paragraph directly answer a question?)
- Question-form heading ratio (H2/H3 headings phrased as questions)
- FAQ coverage (number of Q&A pairs present)
- HowTo step structure (are procedures formatted as numbered steps?)
- Snippet-ready sentence count (definition sentences under 100 characters)
4. Citation Signals
Whether the content gives AI sufficient reason to treat it as a trustworthy, citable source.
Signals measured:
- Number of links to authoritative external sources
updatedAt/dateModifiedfreshness- Explicit author attribution (authorName, byline)
- Presence of specific statistics or data points
5. Page Speed (Core Web Vitals)
LCP, CLS, and INP scores. Slow pages risk incomplete indexing by AI crawlers before they time out.
Grade Scale
| Grade | Score Range | Meaning | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 90+ | Very high AI citation probability | Maintain and monitor competitors |
| B | 75–89 | Key signals met; minor gaps remain | Target specific weak signals |
| C | 60–74 | Structural improvements needed | Prioritize AEO schema implementation |
| D | 45–59 | Foundational signals missing | Fix crawler access, add structured data |
| F | ≤44 | Very unlikely to be cited by AI | Full audit and rebuild required |
RanketAI vs Traditional SEO Tools
| Dimension | SEO tools (Ahrefs, Moz, etc.) | RanketAI |
|---|---|---|
| What is measured | Search engine ranking signals | AI response citation signals |
| Live LLM testing | ❌ | ✅ Direct queries to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini |
| AEO signals | Limited | ✅ Full measurement |
| AI crawler access audit | ❌ | ✅ |
| llms.txt analysis | ❌ | ✅ |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Does a perfect score guarantee AI mentions my brand?
No. A high RanketAI Score maximizes the conditions under which AI is likely to cite you, but cannot guarantee it — LLM responses depend on training data, retrieval logic, and query context that no external tool fully controls. The score measures probability, not outcome.
Q. How quickly does the score change after site improvements?
Technical changes (structured data, crawler access) may be reflected within a few weeks as AI crawlers re-index the site. Brand entity strength — driven by external mentions — typically takes one to three months to materially shift the score.
Q. Can I check a competitor's score?
Yes. RanketAI GEO Check accepts any publicly accessible URL. Entering a competitor's URL produces a score on the same A–F scale for direct comparison.
Q. Is the score specific to a language or region?
The technical audit (crawlability, structured data, AEO readiness, page speed) applies universally. Live LLM testing results may vary by language since English content is more heavily represented in AI training data.
